A deep dive into the Timani method, to enhance musical expression through anatomically informed technique and to learn to teach it to others
3 YEAR PART TIME CERTIFICATION COURSE STARTS SEPTEMBER 11th 2026
LIVE ONLINE STUDY WITH TWO IN-PERSON TRAINING WEEKS at the end of YEARS 2 AND 3
As musicians, we pour countless hours into practicing our craft, engaging in the complex task of mastering an instrument or the nuances of our voice.
We strive for a better sound, a better timing, that feeling of effortlessness, try to relax our shoulders, maintain good posture, better breathing, and refine our technique. Yet, sometimes we find ourselves stuck, repeating the same patterns without progress. We might even question our talent or wonder if we're practicing enough.
Imagine if athletes, performing specific sports demanding specific movements, would not know anything about what muscles they need to train, or how to enhance their movement skills through common anatomical and physiological knowledge.

Spread over 11 weekends, Teaching sessions are mostly 4 hours of teaching (a few are longer) from 16:30 - 20:30 CET (Central European Time). In total around 100 hours of group teaching per year.

Hi, I'm Tina!
My artistic journey quickly turned around when I started learning about the muscles inside my hand that were supposed to engage when pressing the key. The sense of clarity I got put me on a whole new journey, investigating every corner of how the body works, educating myself as a Muscle therapist, Kinetic Control Movement Therapist, biomechanics and science focused Yoga teacher trainings and courses that apply to the body-mind connection.
After teaching thousands of musicians from all over the world, I can confidently say that knowing more about the body can be a profound turning point as a musician. Understanding more about the mechanics of playing or singing can positively influence our musical expression and confidence in the practice room and on stage.
As a pianist I have close to eight years of university studies in performing arts behind me, practicing hours and hours every day and playing concerts around the world. I did not even know that it was possible to feel more comfortable at the instrument and at the same time express music more freely and with a better sound.

"As a professional pianist and music educator, Tina Margareta Nilssen joins the dots for us using her impressive knowledge of anatomy and movement. She unravels the science behind music performance, sifts out the relevant parts and presents concepts in a way that the performer, student, educator and clinician can readily understand and apply."
"The Timani method is based on anatomy and physiology translating into healthy movement and practice. Healthier movement doesn't just mean less injury, it also supports the musical intention and enhances the performer's sense of wellbeing."
"I echo Tina's belief that musicians can and should embrace anatomy and movement as a tool to unleashing their potential. Analysis is not paralysis - it empowers, enriches and elevates, and Timani delivers just that."

“Basically I have no time to practice in my daily life as a freelance cellist, a teacher as well as a mother of two children. Since I have learned Timani it has been bringing me a hope that I can continuously develop as a musician even without sitting by my cello. Because all Timani exercises I can easily apply in my daily life, and it gives directly an effect on my cello playing. I am really astounded!”

“What’s enlightening about learning Timani is the interplay between tension and relaxation. Where in the body can we find the tension we need for the music? What’s the difference between sustainable and unhealthy tension?
With this knowledge, I feel secure in knowing that the way I now play is both strengthening and preventive of additional overuse injuries.”
